Ducks Select Joshua Lopina In Round 4
By Michael Walters
With their second 4th round pick(98th overall), the Ducks chose center Joshua Lopina.
He played a top-six forward role the UMass championship team. He is able to match up well against difficult opponents and has offensive upside. He is a good two-way center being able to produce offensively, but also is responsible with the back-check and a good penalty killer.
He has a good vision for the ice and attacks the open ice. At 6’1″, 193 pounds he is solid on the puck and can absorb contact. He has a grinder style of play and likes to score from in close around the net. He is known for his strong work ethic. He had 23 total points last season(nine goals and 14 assists).
One area of concern is his skating ability. He needs to work on his acceleration with the transition game.
He has been compared to Barclay Goodrow. Some experts had him going in higher rounds, so he could be another steal in the draft for Anaheim.
