Ducks Take Sasha Pastujov In Round 3
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks selected forward Sasha Pastujov with their 3rd round pick, 66th overall.
According to scouting reports, he has a hard shot and isn’t afraid to fire away at the net. He can finish when he has scoring chances and can undress defenders. He has decent size standing 6’0 tall and weighing 184, which allows him to protect the puck and is a good passer with soft hands. He could create turnovers and create chances on the transition as a result.
He has a high hockey IQ and solid situation awareness. He led the Michigan U18 squad with 30 goals, 35 assists, 65 total points, and had 1.59 points per game. He had 8 total points(5 goals + 3 assists) for Team USA at the U18 World Championship.
One area of concern is his skating ability which has been described as average at best. He has been effective on the power play, but his 5-on-5 game needs some work as he sometimes has problems getting the puck out of the defensive zone.
He has been compared to Matthew Tkachuk, Blake Wheeler, and Cole Sillinger who was drafted earlier today. Some experts had him going late in the first round, so he could be a steal for Anaheim getting him in the 3rd round.
