Goals, Goals, and More Goals!

Victory has come its way for Anaheim once again. The Ducks salvaged their revenge against last-place Vancouver on Tuesday evening, taking home a 5-4 win after losing 6-5 to the Canucks last week.

After the Horn (November 3 vs Vancouver)

The Ducks’ offense has continued their success after logging five more goals against the Canucks. Over the last seven days, the team has collected an impressive 17 goals, led by the hottest player in the NHL, Cutter Gauthier. Anaheim became the 10th team in NHL history to score three power play goals in three straight games. It’s the first time in team history they have scored five goals in five consecutive games.

The 22-year old recorded his second consecutive hat-trick, also becoming the first player in the NHL to score power play goals in three consecutive games. Across the last seven days, he has totaled eight goals, placing him 12th in the league leaders for the category. Beckett Sennecke would end up tallying four assists, contributing to all three of Gauthier’s goals.

Laurent Brossoit manned goalie responsibilities for the second game in a row, becoming victorious in each game he’s suited up for Anaheim this season. Brossoit ended up holding Vancouver to two goals through the first two periods, eventually possessing a 5-2 lead after Gauthier’s last goal in the 3rd period. Jake DeBrusk scored two goals within a five minute span in the 3rd to sit one goal behind the Ducks, a rally killed by the final horn.

Overall, the Ducks impressed in a competitive matchup. Five fights were recorded throughout the game as Anaheim evened up the season series with Vancouver. The offense continues to shine, the goalie dilemma becomes slightly clearer, and the defense improved before they will be put to the test against Edmonton on Thursday.

Before the Drop (November 5 vs Edmonton)

The Ducks’ defense remains the most uncertain aspect of the team, up to this point in the season. While two encouraging victories are hopeful to sync the blue liners together, they will be faced with the most difficult offensive unit in Edmonton tomorrow evening.

Connor McDavid leads the league with 40 points and 31 assists. His assists tally surpasses the second-most amount of points in the league, an impressive feat. Luckily for Edmonton, McDavid has been supplemented with Evan Bouchard and Leon Draisaitl. Bouchard has the second most assists in the league with 19 and third most points in the league with 28. Draisaitl is second in goals with 13 and second in points with 31. If anyone were to suppress Anaheim’s defensive momentum, the Oilers appear to be the most favorable candidates.

Brossoit is likely to remain in goal after securing two wins in as many games played. Surely, it will take a devastating appearance in order for Lukas Dostal to take over starting duties, outside of a typical rest day for Brossoit. The two game win streak is the third time Anaheim has accumulated two wins in a row this season and they look to establish their longest winning streak of the season Thursday against the second-best team in the NHL.

The Oilers are 6-2-2 in their last ten, with the Ducks performing to a 3-6-1 record over as many games. After taking down the last place team in the Pacific, a quick turnaround will put them to the test against the top team in the division. Anaheim has tied San Jose in the standings with 15 points, or 4th in the Pacific Division.

Anaheim will take on Edmonton at Rogers Place at 5 PM PST on November 5th, 2026.
