Recap
The Ducks scored first early in the opening period. Beckett Sennecke found Mikael Granlund in the slot for the one-timer to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead.
Jacob Quillan then took a run at Granlund and Roger McQueen dropped the gloves with Quillan. Both received five minutes for fighting. McQueen received an extra two minutes for instigating and the Canucks scored on the power play.
Liam Ohgren appeared to give the Canucks the lead towards the end of the period, but he was called for hooking which erased his goal.
The Ducks then scored on the ensuing power play. Cutter Gauthier scored on a shot from the left face-off circle. Anaheim led 2-1 after the first period.
Vancouver went on a power play early in the second period, but it was Anaheim would take advantage and score. Leo Carlsson broke in on a 2-on-1 rush and beat Laniken glove side. The Ducks led 3-1.
Travis Mitchell and Jacob Quillan dropped the gloves a few minutes later. Both sat for five minutes for fighting.
Just before the halfway point of the second period Linus Karlsson scored to pull the Canucks back within one. He got the puck in front and skate to the side of the net beating Brossoit glove side.
At about the 12 minute mark Jeff Malott and Jamie Oleksiak dropped the gloves. Drew Helleson had run in Laniken moments before and got two minutes for goalie interference.

Gauthier completed the hat trick early in the third period as he scored from the slot with a wrist slot.
Shortly after the goal some chaos ensued as two fights broke out at the same time. Sasson clipped Brossoit so Noah Warren dropped the gloves with him and Sam Colangelo and Paul Cotter also decided to fight. Colangelo and Cotter both received 10 minute game misconducts in addition to the fighting majors.
There was a questionable no penalty call on Sasson for goalie interference, instead Warren got an extra two minutes for roughing. Jake DeBrusk then scored on the power play to make it a two goal deficit.
DeBrusk scored against just before the halfway point of the period to make it a one score deficit. Vancouver applied all kinds of pressure down the stretch, but the Ducks were able to hang on to win 5-4.
Analysis:
Another Ducks game and another high scoring contest. Last week when these two met the teams up 11 combined goals. This contest had nine goals scored. There were also five fights. The Ducks may not be winning most nights at the moment, but the games have been very entertaining.
Anaheim is an insane offensive machine. Gauthier has six goals in the last two games with back-to-back hat tricks to help the Ducks beat the Senators and Canucks. He has 10 goals the season now and is scoring at will on the power play. Anaheim has the best power play in the league at the moment with a 38% efficiency.
Sennecke who had eight goals coming into this contest added four assists and now has 16 total points. He is third overall behind Carlsson and Jackson LaCombe. Carlsson has 11 total points in his last five contests (3 G + 8 A). He was named the third star in the NHL for last week.
It did look like a repeat could have been in store for this contest. The Ducks found themselves up 5-2 again on the Canucks in the third period, but were able to hold off a late charge by Vancouver this time. Anaheim is scoring at will, but their defense is suspect giving up too many goals. They also gave up two goals in four power play chances for the Canucks. Carlsson did sore a shorty which was key in the second period making it a 3-1 lead at that moment. The Ducks are only 74.6% efficient on the penalty kill.
There were also a couple of key moments in the first period in this contest. Vancouver tied up the game 1-1 after McQueen was given a questionable extra two minutes for instigating in his first NHL fight. Then late in the period Liam Ohgren appeared to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead, but he was called for hooking, which drew the ire of their team and their fans. The Ducks scored on the ensuing power play so it was Anaheim who ended up with a 2-1 after the first period.
Brossoit started in his second consecutive game and has earned two wins in a row. He ended up stopping 23 of 27 shots on goal by Vancouver. He hasn’t been great in either start, but he has been good enough for Anaheim to win each time. The Ducks have back-to-back games coming up. It will be interesting to see who Head Coach Joel Quenneville puts in net for both contests.
Team Notes/Stats:
Gauthier recored hat tricks in back-to-back which has never been done by a Ducks before. He also became the first player in NHL history with multiple power play goal in three strait games.
Sennecke had four assist in this contest. He is the youngest Ducks player to so in team history and becomes the four player to get four apples in a contest. Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Nikita Nesterenko were the other three who also had four assists in one contest.
Jackson LaCombe had two assists to extend his point streak to seven games. He tied Francois Beauchemin for the second-longest streak by a Ducks defensemen.
The Ducks have scored 10 power play goals in a three-span. The last team to achieve that was Minnesota in the 2008-09 season.
