The Anaheim Ducks finished their road trip in Calgary against the Flames. Lukas Dostal was in net against Jacob Markstrom.

The Ducks opened the scoring with about six minutes left to go in the first period. Mason McTavish deflected a point shot by Olen Zellweger past Markstrom. Anaheim also killed off a penalty in the final minutes of the period and held a 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Anaheim was shorthanded early in the second period and Yegor Sharangovich scored on the power play to tie the game at one. Halfway through the period the Flames took the lead when Andrei Kuzmenko beat Dostal with a wrist shot.

The Ducks answered back on the power play with a goal by Troy Terry. Zellweger took a point shot that hit Leo Carlsson in the leg and then deflected to Terry at the side of the net. He was able to beat Markstrom to the far post for the score. The teams remained tied at two heading into the third period.

Cam Fowler put the Ducks ahead in the opening minutes of the third period. Trevor Zegras found Fowler in the slot and he beat Markstrom over the shoulder for the goal.

Alex Killorn then extended the Anaheim lead about three minutes later. Terry found Killorn in the slot and he beat Markstorm up high to make it a 4-2 Anaheim lead.

Kuzmenko answered to pull the Flames within one. The Flames got some puck luck as a shot by Martin Pospisil deflected off Kuzmenko’s skate  and into the net.

Killorn responded with his second of the game. Jackson LaCombe took a post shot which was blocked in front. The puck laid on the ice in the slot area and Killorn picked it up and beat Markstrom glove side. The Ducks had a 5-3 lead and that would eventually be the final score.

The Ducks had a slow start failing to record a shot on goal in the first 10+ minutes of the game. They then out shot Calgary 13 to 1 in the second half of the first period and took a 1-0 lead. Anaheim got in penalty trouble early in the second as Calgary was able to score a few times and take a 2-1 lead. The Ducks didn’t quit and responded by scoring four of the next five goals to win this contest.

This was a good all around game for the Ducks especially after having gone 0-4-0 on the road trip. Anaheim had multi-point games from Zellweger (three assists), Killorn (two goals), and Terry (one goal, two assists). Nine different players registered at least one point in this contest. They cashed in on their only power play of the game and they also out shot Calgary 29 to 24.

Team Notes/Stats:

Zellweger had his first multiple point night recording three assists. Pavel Mintyukov also had a three assist game back on February 21st. It’s the first time two rookie defensemen recorded a three assist game each in the same season since 1994-95. Mintyukov was on ice for the team’s morning skate, but only for a short time. He was unable to play and is listed as day-to-day.

Terry scored his 20th goal of the season. He has scored 20 or more goals in the past three seasons.

McTavish went to the locker room early in the second period with a lower-body injury after being sandwiched by two Calgary players. He did not return to the game and there hasn’t been an update yet.
