Ducks Trade Kulikov To The Penguins

The Anaheim Ducks traded Dmitry Kulikov to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In return the Ducks will get a 2024 third round draft pick and Brock McGinn per multiple reports. The Ducks are retaining 50% of Kulikov’s salary per Cap Friendly. The Ducks later confirmed the trade.

The Ducks acquired Kulikov in the summer of 2022 in a trade with the Minnesota Wild for future considerations. He played in 61 games with Anaheim this season registering 15 total points (3 Goals + 12 Assists). He filled in nicely for the Ducks especially when Jamie Drysdale went down earlier this season and also Urho Vaakanainen who has been in and out of the lineup with injuries.

Brock McGinn has 10 goals and 6 assists in 60 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins this season. He played 5 seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes and then spent the last two with Pittsburgh. He had 73 goals and 71 assists in 469 career NHL games.

McGinn is a 6’0″ 187 pound forward, who has an element of grit with a good work ethic. He is a solid checker at both ends of the ice and is a good penalty killer. He is a threat to score when his team is shorthanded and has 7 goals while on the penalty kill, with two coming this season. He can play effective hockey at either wing position and is a good two way forward with decent defensive play as well.

McGinn just recently cleared waivers and was sent to the AHL, so the Ducks can assign him to San Diego if they desire. He would be a solid addition to the Ducks bottom six, if Anaheim decides to have him play with the Ducks instead. McGinn is signed through the 2024-25 season and his cap hit is $2.75 mil per year.
