Gibson Blanks Stars, Ducks Win 2-0

The Anaheim Ducks continued their homestand against the Dallas Stars. John Gibson was in net against Scott Wedgewood.
Recap
The Ducks got on the board early just over three minutes into the game. Adam Henrique took a shot near the boards and it floated over Wedgewood into the net. It appeared the shot deflected off the stick of Jari Hakanpaa.
Anaheim then went on the power play halfway through the period and the Ducks converted. Trevor Zegras found Mason McTavish at the side of the net and he one time the pass into the net.
The Stars got two power plays in the second period, but couldn’t cash in on either one. Shortly after the second man advantage the Stars scored, but after the whistle was blown.
The Ducks took one more penalty at the final seconds of the period so they would be down a man to start the third period.
Anaheim was able to kill off the penalty to start the third period. The Ducks with stood a pull by the Stars and held them off the score board. With just about two minutes to go the Ducks were called for another penalty, but were able to prevent Dallas from cashing. Anaheim went on to win 2-0.
Analysis:
The Ducks had a solid first period and were able to just out to a 2-0 lead. Anaheim then cruised the rest of the way to victory large part in thanks to Gibson being able to shutout the Stars. The Ducks had to play in their often in the second and third period with the Stars posting a 61.11% CF and 70.59% CF in the those periods respectively.
Special teams was also key in this contest. The Ducks had one power play opportunity and were able to cash in on it. The Stars had four power play chances and the Ducks shut the door on all of those attempts. Anaheim also had 27 blocked shots which helped slow down Dallas.
Team Notes/Stats:
The victory tonight was Gibson’s 173rd which ties him with Guy Hebert for second for all-item wins by a Ducks goalie.
