Ducks Claim Gerald Mayhew
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks claimed forward Gerald Mayhew off waivers today from Philadelphia. TSN’s Elliotte Friedman announced the move. The Ducks organization confirmed the pick up shortly afterward.
Mayhew has played in 25 games for the Flyers this season and scored six goals. He has also played 24 games in the AHL this season recording 16 total points(9 G + 7 A). He stands at 5’9″, 170 pounds and shoots right handed. He played on the 4th line for the Flyers and is a grinder. He isn’t afraid to go into the dirty areas and mix it up. He will also go to the net and set up screens in front. He provides plenty of energy during his shifts.
He spent the two previous seasons in Minnesota. He has recorded a total of 9 points (8 G + 6 A) in 42 NHL games. He has 12 career penalty minutes and an on ice rating of +12.
His contract is set to expire at the end of this season and carries a $800,000 cap hit. With Nicolas Deslauriers being traded yesterday, this is likely a depth move for Anaheim. Mayhew will be an unrestricted free agent come summer time.
