VIDEO: Zegras “Bruins” The Night For Boston
By Michael Walters
The Ducks would get and early power play and Rickard Rakell would score to give Anaheim the early 1-0 lead. He got to a rebound and then shot the puck over Ullmark’s glove to start the scoring for Anaheim.
Just less than two minutes later, the Bruins would respond with a goal by Foligno.
Anaheim would then get two goals late in the period to make it a 3-1 lead. Isac Lundestrom would score to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead. The Ducks would create a turnover at Boston’s blue line and Cam Fowler ripped a shot from the slot. Lundestrum got to the rebound and shot the puck in off Ullmark’s stick. About a minute later Troy Terry found a streaking Adam Henrique, who beat Ullmark with a quick wrist shot stick side.
In the second period, the Bruins would pull with one. Brandon Carlo took a slap shot and it somehow got past Gibson. At first look, it appeared like the shot was deflected, but it wasn’t. The puck somehow find a way through Gibson and into the back of the net.
Th Bruins tied up the game early in the third period. David Pastrnak took a shot that deflected not once, but twice off two Anaheim players and then past the outstretched leg of Gibson.
With just under a minute to go, Charlie McCoy was called for hooking against Ryan Getzlaf. On the subsequent power play, Trevor Zegras would take a shot at the top of the face-off circle and beat Ullmark glove side. There was only 22 seconds left in the game and the Ducks would go on to win 4-3.
The Ducks came out strong in the opening period and dropped three goals on the Bruins. Anaheim then let of the gas in the second period as Boston outshot them 14-7 and was able to pull within one. The Bruins scored in the opening minutes of the third period to tie it up and it could have been anyone’s game to win at that point.
In the final minutes of the game it appeared like the teams might be headed to overtime. However, a penalty on Boston and a subsequent power play goal by Zegras gave the Ducks a win in dramatic fashion.
It was great to see Sonny Milano and Zegras back together as well as Troy Terry with Ryan Getzlaf. The chemistry between these two groups of players worked well earlier in the season. Zegras (1 goal + 2 assists) and Getzlaf (3 assists) both had three points nights. Max Comtois did not play and still appears in the dog house.
Rickard Rakell has 7 goals in his last 10 games.
Zegras recorded three points in this contest and has 41 on the season. He is two points behind Lucas Raymond, who leads all rookies with 43 points.
Foligno recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick (one goal, one assist, and one fight).
The Ducks host the Vegas Golden Knights Friday at 7 PM PT.
