VIDEO: Ducks Get Blanked By Islanders

By Michael Walters

The Anaheim Ducks continued their homestead against the New York Islanders. John Gibson and Adam Henrique were out with non-COVID illnesses. Anthony Stolarz got the start in net and Lukas Dostal was recalled to serve as the back up. Ilya Sorokin was in net for New York.

Recap

The teams traded several penalties early in this game, but there was no scoring during special teams play. The Islanders would eventually score first on a weird shot. Noah Dobson took a shot that knuckled in past Stolarz.

New York would add to their lead early in the second period. Casey Cizikas would get a pass next to the net and shot the puck in to make it 2-0. Later in the second period matching penalties were handed out and the teams played 4-on-4. There was no more scoring in the middle frame.

In the third, the Islanders would add two more goals. Andy Greene would score just over halfway through the period and then Kieffer Bellows scored a few minutes later. New York was up 4-0 and Anaheim couldn’t rally at that point.

Analysis:

Things have gone from bad to worse lately for Anaheim. The Ducks lost 4-1 to the Kings on Friday and didn’t have any jump in they step until the third period. In this game against the Islanders, it didn’t seem like the Ducks had any energy throughout the entire game.

Anaheim outshot New York in each period slightly, but they didn’t create many dangerous scoring chances. The Ducks weren’t able to get on the board. There just didn’t seem to be any flow or chemistry to the Ducks play in this one.

Anaheim have now gone 2-5-0 since the all-star break. Any idea of making the playoffs is slipping away as the Ducks hover around 10th in the conference. The trade deadline is less than a month away and it’s apparent new General Member Pat Verbeek is going to need to make some moves to improve the situation in Anaheim.

The Ducks host the Bruins on Tuesday at 7 PM.
