Anaheim Outlook (Updates per Aly Lozoff & Eric Stephens)
The Ducks defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 thanks to Troy Terry‘s first career hat trick and stellar play by John Gibson in net. Anaheim was without Ryan Getzlaf, Derek Grant, and Nicolas Deslauriers, who are all in the COVID protocol. Trevor Zegras did not play due to still testing positive despite feeling fine. Sam Carrick also did not play because he was feeling ill.
Anaheim was set to play Detroit on Thursday, but then several more players tested positive for COVID, which included Sam Carrick, John Gibson, Vinni Lettieri, and Hampus Lindholm. Carrick is the only one experiencing symptoms according to Head Coach Dallas Eakins. The game is rescheduled for tomorrow.
Zegras and Deslauriers will play tonight. Getzlaf is out of the protocol, but hasn’t been practicing so he will sit tonight out. Jacob Perreault will make his NHL debut tonight and will skate with Zegras and Milano. The Ducks will need to still recall more players from the Gulls. San Diego is also scheduled to play Ontario tonight.
Anaheim continues to thrive on special teams. The Ducks are 27.8% efficient on the power play, which ranks 4th in the league. Their penalty kill is 85.6% efficient, which is tied for 3rd in the NHL.
Troy Terry leads the team in scoring with 21 goals.
Roster Moves:
Lukas Dostal, Benoit-Olivier Groulx, Bryce Kindopp, Danny O’Regan, Greg Pateryn, and Buddy Robinson were all reassigned to San Diego recently. Dostal, Kindopp, and Groulx played last night in the Gulls 4-1 win. Dostal, Groulx, Pateryn, and Robinson have been recalled. Dostal will back up Stolarz.

Injury/COVID News:
Grant and Deslauriers were also put in the protocol on January 3rd. Deslauriers will return tonight.
Sam Carrick, John Gibson, Vinni Lettieri, and Hampus Lindholm were placed in the protocol on January 6th.
Josh Mahura remains on the IR with an upper-body injury. He is listed as week-to-week.
Adam Henrique has an lower-body injury and remains on the IR. He has been skating on his own, but the timeline for his return is unknown.
Max Jones had surgery to repair a pectoralis major tendon tear and will be out for 4-6 months.

New York Outlook
The Rangers were on a three game winning streak. They beat Tampa Bay 4-3 in a shootout and then blanked them in a second game 4-0. They also beat Edmonton 4-1, but then New York’s winning streak ended with a 5-1 loss at the hands of Vegas. The Rangers have gone 5-4-1 in their last 10 games and are in second place in the Metropolitan Division.
New York averages 2.86 goals per game, which ranks 20th in the league. They give up 2.54 goals against on average. On the power play they are 24.5% efficient, which ranks 8th in the league. They are 4th in the league on the penalty kill at 84.3% efficiency.
