Ducks Call Up Zegras And Make More Moves
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they called up Trevor Zegras.
He was spotted at the Ducks practice this morning skating with Sam Steel and Jakob Silfverberg according to the Athletic’s Eric Stephens. Head Coach Dallas Eakins didn’t confirm that Zegras would start tomorrow in Arizona, but said “If we choose to put him in the lineup tomorrow, he will be on one of our power plays. That’s a for sure. We will not hold back on that.”
Zegras will wear number 46 whether he makes his NHL debut tomorrow(eye wink) or on Wednesday. Zegras alone can’t completely turn this team or season around, but he can help Anaheim’s struggling offense and power play. The Ducks average 1.83 goals per game, which is dead last in the NHL. The power play is operating at just 7.5% efficiency, which is second to last.
Zegras is signed to an entry-level contract and if he does not play in a minimum of 7 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs) then his contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year. If he plays in 7 or more NHL games this season, then his contract will official start this year. Normally the rule is 10 games, but it was modified due to the shortened season.
Roster Moves
Also present at practice today was Vinni Lettieri, Sonny Milano, and Adam Henrique. After Henrique cleared waivers today, he was placed on the taxi squad. Even though he cleared waivers, his future is uncertain. I discussed several possible options for him: Henrique Cleared Waivers, Now What?
The Ducks also reassigned Josh Mahura, Vinni Letteiri, and Anthony Stolarz to the taxi squad.
Chase De Leo, Lukas Dostal, and Jacob Perrault were reassigned to the San Diego Gulls.
Injury Updates
Hampus Lindholm(lower-body) injury will travel with the team to Arizona.
Josh Manson(oblique) is still on the IR and has some time to go before returning.
Milano was at present at practice today. He is still listed on the IR and was on a conditioning loan with the Gulls.
