The San Diego Gulls announced that Chris Wideman was named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his contributions to the San Diego community during this past season.

Wideman has been key in building a relationship between the local military community and the team per the Gulls press release. He started Wideman’s Warriors in October, which helps supply tickets to military families and also raises funds for them as well. Through the program, Wideman purchased four season tickets to every Gulls home game during the 2019-20 season and donated them to military families. He also raised close to $1,700 which will be matched by the San Diego Gulls Foundation and distributed to the Armed Services YMCA in San Diego and Wounded Warrior Project.

Wideman also helps with various other charitable events throughout the San Diego community in addition to his Wideman’s Warrior project.

Wideman is one of 31 finalists for the AHL’s 2019-20 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award which honors the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year.

Congratulations to Chris Wideman, well deserved!
