Graphic: NHL

By Richard Gonzalez

The 2018-19 NHL trade deadline is on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. Jakob Silfverberg was rumored to be on the trading block but it appears that he and the Anaheim Ducks have reached an agreement. Adam Henrique is listed as number 18 on TSN’s trade bait list.

We were provided information regarding some players who the Ducks have an interest in per a team source. They are listed below in no particular order.

Gabriel Dumont

Gabriel was drafted in the 5th round, 139th overall, by the Montreal Canadians in the 2009 draft. Dumont, 28, is a 5’11”, 190 pound center. He has played a total 87 games scoring 9 points (4 goals and 5 assists) with the Canadians, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Ottawa Senators. He is currently playing with the Syracuse Crunch where he has 25 points (7 goals and 18 assists) in 35 games. Dumont plays with a bit of an edge and energy to his game. He plays bigger than his size and won’t shy away from the rough stuff. He is known as a grinder type of player.

Nick Lappin

Nick was signed by the New Jersey Devils in March of 2016. Lappin, 26, is a 6’0″, 175-pound right winger. He has played 52 NHL games scoring 8 points (5 goals and 3 assists). He is currently playing with the Binghamton Devils scoring 22 points (12 goals and 10 assists) in 43 games this season. He is known to play a well-rounded game and tenacious on the fore-check. He has some speed and can produce offensively. He plays with grit and has a quick release.

Blake Pietila

Blake was drafted in the 5th round, 129th, by the Devils. Pietila, 25, is a 5’11”, 200 pound left winger. He has played in 26 NHL games scoring a goal and three assists. He is currently playing with the Devils AHL team where he has scored 30 points (16 goals and 17 assists) in 42 games. He plays with a bit of an edge as brings energy to a lineup.

Steven Fogarty

Steven was drafted in the 3rd round, 72th overall, by the New York Rangers in the 2011 draft. Fogarty, 25, is a 6’3″, 210 pound center. He has played in 11 NHL games without registering a point. He currently is playing with the Hartford Wolf Pack where he has scored 33 points (14 goals and 19 assists) in 44 games. He is known as a power forward type of player who can be a points producer. He is said to have to work on his skating, which is a weakness.

Tyrell Goulbourne

Tyrell was drafted in the 3rd round, 72nd overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2013 draft. Goulbourne, 25, is a 5’11”, pound left winger. He has played in 11 NHL games without registering a point and currently plays for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms where he has scored 13 points (6 goals and 7 assists) in 44 games. He is a depth forward who plays a hard physical game. He throws his body around and racks up the penalty minutes. Not much of an offensive upside.

Mike Vecchione

Mike signed an entry-level deal with the Flyers in March of 2017. Vecchione, 25, is a 5’10”, 194 pound center. He has played in two NHL games and did not register a point. He currently plays for the Phantoms and has scored 31 points (11 goals and 20 assists) in 53 games. He is a potential top-line forward who keeps improving his game at the pro level. He has the skill and potential.

Thomas Di Pauli

Thomas was drafted in the fourth round, 100th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2012 draft. Di Pauli, 24, has yet to play in the NHL and is currently playing with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins where he has scored 15 points (7 goals and 8 assists) in 29 games. He is projected to be a bottom-six energy type of player who hasn’t been much of a points producer.

Tanner Kero

Tanner was signed by the Blackhawks in April of 2015. He was traded to the Vancouver Canucks on June 24, 2018. Kero, 26, is a 6’0″, 185 pound center. He has played in 72 NHL games scoring 22 points (8 goals and 14 assists). He currently plays for the Utica Comets where he has scored 47 points (20 goals and 27 assists) in 52 games. He has strong potential points production and might be able to crack a top-six role if given the opportunity. He has a well-rounded game and keeps improving.

Stefan Matteau

Stefan was drafted in the 1st found, 29th overall, by the Devils in the 2012 draft. Matteau, 24, is a 6″2″, 220 pound center. He has played in 64 NHL games with the Devils, Canadian and the Vegas Golden Knights and has scored7 points (3 goals and 4 assists). He currently plays for the Chicago Wolves where he has scored 8 points (3 goals and 5 assists) in 36 games. He is a fast player despite his big frame. He plays an aggressive style who plays the body and needs to be more disciplined in play. He has a good shot and can fill various roles.

Riley Barber

Riley was drafted in the 6th round, 167th overall, by the Capitals in the 2012 draft. Barber, 25, is a 6’0″, 198-pound right winger. He has played in three games but did not register a point. He currently plays for the Hershey Bears where he has scored 44 points (21 goals and 23 assists) in 44 games. He is a two-way player with above average speed. He wins battles in the boards and crashing the net. He is defensively responsible and creates chances by stealing the puck.

Michael Sgarbossa

Michael was undrafted but was ultimately signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks. He was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, to the Anaheim Ducks and then to the Panthers. He signed a one year deal with the Jets and as most recently with the Capitals. Sgarbossa, 26, is a 6’0″, 175 pound center. He has played in 48 games with the Avalanche, Ducks, and Panthers scoring 10 points (2 goals and 8 assists). He is currently playing with the Hersey Bears where he has scored 44 points (23 goals and 21 assists) in 52 games. Consistency at the NHL level has been an issue with Sgarbossa. He has shown offensive flashes at times but has not been able to stay with a team. He puts up great numbers in the AHL as he tied his last season points production in 23 fewer games. He plays a good two-way game and gets to the scoring areas. He will probably land as a top-nine forward with more consistency and better players around him or a career AHLer.

Nathan Walker

Nathan was drafted in the 3rd round, 89th overall, by the Capitals. Walker, 25, is a 5’9″, 186-pound left winger. He has played in 12 NHL games getting a goal and assist. He currently plays for the Hershey Bears where he has scored 22 points (12 goals and 10 assists) in 36 games. He is a gritty depth player. A bottom six forward who can bring energy and a grit style of play. Prominently used in a checking line or fourth line player.

Seth Griffith

Seth was drafted in the 5th round, 131st overall, by the Boston Bruins in the 2012 draft. Griffith, 26, is a 5’9″, 190-pound center. He has played in 79 NHL games with the Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and the Buffalo Sabres scoring 19 points (8 goals and 11 assists). He was signed by the Winnipeg Jets on July 1, 2018, and is currently playing with the Manitoba Moose where he has scored 39 points (8 goals and 31 assists) in 39 games. He is a smart and responsible player with a potential upside. He has been underrated and can find success with the right opportunity and stability.

J.C. Lipon

JC was drafted in the 3rd round, 91st overall, by the Jets in the 2013 draft. Lipon, 25, is a 6’0″, 183-pound right winger. He has played in nine NHL games getting an assist. He currently plays for the Manitoba Moose where he has scored 23 points (10 goals and 13 assists) in 44 games. He is a gritty, tough and physical type of player who can also gifted with playmaking ability. A David Clarkson-type of player who will protect his teammates.

Chris Mueller

Chris was signed by the Dallas Stars in 2013. He would then sign with the New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes and the most recent, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Mueller, 32, is a 5’11”, 196 pound center. He has played in 53 NHL games scoring 10 points (3 goals and 7 assists). He currently is playing for the Toronto Marlins, where he has scored 51 points (24 goals and 27 assists) in 47 games played. He is a two-way player with the ability to score. He is a gifted playmaker who also has some bite to his game.

Darren Archibald

Darren was recently traded to the Ottawa Senators from the Vancouver Canucks. Archibald, 29, is a 6’3″, 210-pound right winger. He has played in 55 NHL games scoring 14 points (6 goals and 8 assists). He is currently with the Belleville Senators where he has played in ten games scoring 8 points (2 goals and 6 assists). He is currently with the Chicago Wolves where he has played in 47 games scoring 43 points (10 goals and 33 assists) in 44 games. He plays a smart game and is more known of a playmaker. He can be used on the PK but has problems winning battles due to his small size.

Daniel O’Regan

Daniel was drafted in the fifth round, 138th overall, by the San Jose Sharks. O’Regan, 25, is a 5’10”, 185 pound center/right wing. He has played in 24 NHL games scoring 5 points (1 goal and 4 assists). He is currently playing with the Rochester Americans where he has scored 34 points (18 goals and 16 assists) in 53 games. He is a well-rounded skater with the ability to snipe the puck. He has the potential to be a top six player.

Tyler Graovac

Tyler was drafted in the seventh round, 191 overall, by the Minnesota Wild in the 2011 draft. He is currently signed with the Calgary Flames. Graovac, 25, is a 6’5″, 208 pound center. He has played in 62 NHL games with the Wild and Capitals scoring 9 points (7 goals and 2 assists). He is currently with the Stockton Heat where he has scored 41 points (17 goals and 24 assists) in 44 games. He. Is an offensive force that needs to use his bigger frame more. That will, in the long run, help him become a better player and get on the board more.

Andrew Poturalski

Andrew was signed by the Carolina Hurricanes in March of 2016. Poturlski, 25, is a 5’10”, 190 pound right wing. He has played in two NHL games but did not record a point. He currently is playing for the Charlotte Checkers where he has scored 49 points (18 goals and 31 assists) in 52 games. He is a depth forward with a potential scoring upside despite his smaller frame.

Alex Broadhurst

Alex was drafted in the seventh round, 199 overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2011 draft. Broadhurst, 25, is a 6’0″, 178-pound center who is currently with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He has played in two NHL games but did not record a point. He is currently playing with the Cleveland Monsters where he has scored 29 points (8 goals and 21 assists) in 48 games. Broadhurst is described as a “jack of all trades.” He is projected as a bottom six, penalty killer who can create a spark to his team.

Patrick Russell

Patrick was signed by the Edmonton in May of 2016. Russell, 26, is a 6’1″, 203-pound right winger. He has played in six NHL games but did not record a point. He currently plays with the Bakersfield Condors where he has scored 30 points (14 goals and 16 assists) in 40 games. He has a high work ethic and can be a bottom six player given the right opportunity. He is a player who goes it his all each and every shift.

The trade deadline is extremely unpredictable and anything can happen. I don’t see the Ducks making any big splashes or getting in a bidding war with another team. I can just see them getting depth players that have a potential upside. This is just my opinion but it seems like Bob Murray is going to sit back and ride out the rest of the season instead of doing really anything significant. A few names caught our attention and we discussed them on the latest DucksNPucks show.
