VIDEO: Ducks Downed 5-1 By Blues
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks hosted the St. Louis Blues before the All-Star break. John Gibson was in net against Jordan Binnington.
First Period
The Ducks nearly scored in the opening moments of the game. A dump in took a strange bounce off the glass and almost went in the St. Louis net. Despite not getting a shot on goal for the first six minutes the Ducks would score first. Daniel Sprong would get the puck in front and shoot it over the glove of Binnington. The Blues would answer as Vladimir Tarasenko would blast one past Gibson. The teams headed to the locker room tied at one.
Second Period
The Blues would take the lead early in the period as Zach Sanford would put his own rebound past Gibson. Ducks best chance came from Max Jones, but he shot it wide of the Blues net. Oskar Sundqvist would add another goal to give the Blues a 3-1 lead. Cam Fowler took a shot off of his left hand or wrist toward the end of the period and went to the locker room. Ducks trailed 3-1 after two periods.
Third Period
Randy Carlyle shuffled the lines multiple times in the third period to try to generate something offensively. Cam Fowler had a good chance at point-blank range early in the period, but he was stopped. Tyler Bozak would then score as his shot would go off Nick Ritchie‘s skate to make it 4-1 Blues. Sammy Blais would add another goal to make it 5-1. Gibson would get pulled and Chad Johnson would come in to finish the game.
Analysis
Another unforgettable night for the Anaheim Ducks. They were outshot early and managed to get the first goal of the game, but the Blues scored the next five goals. Much like the previous contest against the Islanders, the Blues worked the forecheck and kept Anaheim on their heels for most of this game. Carlyle did try to shake things up in the third period by changing the lines around, but it was too little too late. The Ducks won’t play again until February 4th and will have plenty to contemplate during the All-Star Break.
