Comtois Injured; Fowler and Rakell To Return Soon?
By Michael Walters
It was revealed last night after Anaheim’s loss that Max Comtois played in the World Junior Tournament with a separated shoulder. He is expected to be out for a few weeks.
Comtois was highly praised when he was announced as the captain of Team Canada and when he scored four goals to open the tournament. Once Team Canada was eliminated, he then became the subject of harsh criticism. His representatives then issued this statement: Comtois’ Statement Regarding WJC.
Practice Report
Cam Fowler and Rickard Rakell skated again today. Fowler was wearing his full face shield and skated with Josh Manson per the OC Register’s Elliott Teaford. Rakell was a full-participant on the ice with Ryan Getzlaf and Pontus Aberg. It’s unknown if Fowler or Rakell will be available for tomorrow’s game against Edmonton, but seeing them both on the ice that past couple of days is a good sign.
Corey Perry continues to work out off ice, but still has yet to skate with the team. He was originally scheduled to return at the end of February, but he could return sooner. He has been working hard to get back as soon as possible.
Holzer Clears Waivers
Korbinian Holzer was placed on waivers and cleared them today. He will likely be assigned to San Diego in the near future as he tries to get game ready.
Gulls Roster Moves
The San Diego Gulls released Steve McParland from his professional tryout. He had one goal in four games with the Gulls and a +1 on ice rating. He played in 28 games this season with the Idaho Steelheads(ECHL) recording 23 total points(10 G + 13 A) with a +6 on ice rating.
The Gulls also reassigned defenseman Chris Forney to the Tulsa Oilers(ECHL). Forney played in three games in San Diego but didn’t record a point. He played in 13 games with Tulsa this season recording three total points(1 G + 2A) with a +5 on ice rating.
