Anaheim Acquires Rights To Noah Philp From Carolina

Photo: Carolina Hurricanes

By Michael Walters

Another day and another trade involving player’s rights. Carolina General Manager Eric Tulsky announced the team reacquired the rights to Kyle Masters and sent Anaheim the rights to Noah Philp in return.

Masters was originally part of the trade for John Carlson‘s rights last Saturday. Carolina sent the rights of Kyle Masters and the 192nd overall pick in the 2026 draft to Anaheim.

So the end result between the two trades is Anaheim received Philp’s rights and the 192nd overall pick, while Carolina received the rights to Carlson and reacquired Masters’ rights. Got it? Clear as mud…

Analysis:

File this under the weird category of trading. Saturday morning Masters was with Carolina and then by the end of the day he was with Anaheim. Now he wakes up today with Carolina again. Cue the Simspons walking in and out meme.

Philp made his NHL debut in the 2024-25 season with Edmonton where he had two assists in 15 games. He has played in 32 total regular games registering 5 total points (2 G + 3 A) in the last two years.

In the 2024-25 season he spent most of the time in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors. He posted 35 total points (19 G + 16 A) in 55 games. During the 2025-26 season he also played for the Chicago Wolves in the AHL putting up 17 total points (8 G + 9 A) in 29 games. He was injured and did not play the last few months of the season.

He is a 6’3″ 198 pound forward who brings his size, strength, and skating in order to create scoring chances. He will also drive to the net making it difficult to defend him off the rush. He is also able to beat players to loose pucks in the corners. He has an offensive upside to his game, but it’s uncertain if he can bring it to the NHL like he has shown in the AHL the past couple of seasons.

He just recently signed with HV71 in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). If the Ducks are able to sign him, then he would likely be a bottom six forward role player in the NHL.

Thank you Ducks legend Kyle Masters and best of luck in Carolina.
