Ducks Get Shutout In Minnesota
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks finished their road trip in Minnesota against the Wild. Petr Mrazek was in net against Jesper Wallstedt. Mikael Granlund was out with a lower-body injury so Jansen Harkins drew back in.
There was no scoring in this contest until the second period. Marcus Johansson scored in the opening minute of the middle frame to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead.
There was no more scoring until the end of this contest. The Ducks pulled Mrazek in the final minutes of the third period and the Wild scored in the empty net. Minnesota went on to win 2-0.
Analysis:
This was an extremely frustrating game for the Anaheim Ducks. Mason McTavish had a bad first period getting called for two penalties, including a double minor. The Ducks survived the first period and went to the locker room tied at zero. Minnesota scored in the second period and that’s all they needed to win. This contest was a goalie duel between Mrazek and Wallstedt.
Anaheim does need to work on their discipline. The Ducks killed off all the Wild power plays, but they were shorthanded SEVEN times. Anaheim did get two power plays in the third period and could have tied up the game, but they failed to do so.
The Ducks put up a CF% 49.37% and FF% of 53.23% at even strength. Anaheim had 39 shot attempts to 40 for Minnesota. This was a tight contest and if they were better at staying out of the penalty box then maybe the outcome of this game would have been different.
Team Notes/Stats:
For the first time this season the Ducks were shutout.
Anaheim has lost three games in a row for the first time this season.
What’s Next?
The Ducks return home to host Utah on Monday at 7 PM.
