The Anaheim Ducks hosted the Winnipeg Jets at Honda Center. Lukas Dostal was in net against Eric Comrie.

The Ducks jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over seven minutes into the first period. Cutter Gauthier had the puck behind the net and he found Beckett Sennecke in the slot. He one-timed the pass low for the score.

Anaheim made it 2-0 in the final minute of the period while on the power play. After a point shot was blocked, Troy Terry got the rebound and passed the puck to Leo Carlsson, who scored from the left face-off circle.

Kyle Connor scored in the opening minutes of the second period to cut the Ducks lead in half.

Sennecke answered for the Ducks just over halfway through the middle frame. He got to a rebound in the slot and beat Comrie low for the score. Anaheim held a 3-1 advantage after two periods.

Carlsson scored his second of the game early in the third period on the power play. He one-timed a pass from the slot to make it a 4-1 lead.

Gauthier scored in the final moments of the game, but the play was reviewed and determined to be offside. The Ducks went on to win 4-1.

Analysis:

This was a great performance from start to finish for Anaheim. The Ducks jumped out to an early lead and never really looked back. The Jets made it close early in the second, but the Ducks responded with two more goals.

Carlsson continues his dominant play scoring two more goals tonight after also scoring twice on Saturday against Vegas. He has 8 goals and 11 assists in his last 10 games. The only other Ducks player to achieve that feat in 10 games was Teemu Selanne (3 times).

Sennecke also had himself a night with two goals. He was all over the ice and could have had a hat trick. ‘

Gauthier had another solid game with two assists and scored a goal late in the game, but it was wiped out as the play was deemed offside.

The Ducks poured on the offense once again, but they also played solid defense. Anaheim had 14 blocked shots and Winnipeg turned over the puck 21 times. The Jets put up 24 shots on goal to 21 for the Ducks, but didn’t have many quality chances until late in the game.

Special teams was a factor in this one. Carlsson scored twice on the power play as the Ducks went 2-for-4 with the man advantage. The Jets had four power plays as well, but couldn’t convert on any of them.

Team Notes/Stats:

The Ducks have won seven games in a row and currently have the second best record in the NHL.

Carlsson is tied for 5th fastest in NHL history to reach 25 points in a season at age of 20 or younger.

Ryan Strome (upper-body) was activated off the IR. He skated in warmups, but did not play in the contest.

Radko Gudas (lower-body) was placed on the IR before the game.
