The Anaheim Ducks started their brief two game road trip against the Dallas Stars. Lukas Dostal was in net for Anaheim against Jake Oettinger for Dallas.

The Stars struck first just under six minutes into the first period.. The Ducks were shorthanded and Wyatt Johnston scored on a one-timer from the slot.

Dallas added to their lead late in the first period. Johnston scored again while on the man advantage as he deflected a shot past Dostal.

Anaheim got on the board early in the second period on the power play. Leo Carlsson found Chris Kreider in the neutral zone. He got behind the defense and beat Oettinger stick side.

The Ducks then tied the game up at two just over minute later. Ryan Poehling found a streaking Ian Moore in the slot, who beat Oettinger to the far post for the score.

Tyler Seguin then scored a few minutes later to give the Stars the lead back at 3-2. Sam Steel found Seguin in the slot for the score.

The Ducks responded with just under six minutes to go to tie the game. After a turnover, Alex Killorn found Cutter Gauthier who scored from the side of the net.

About three minutes later Beckett Sennecke found Olen Zellweger on a rush with a partial open net to give Anaheim a 4-3 lead after two periods.

The Ducks took a 5-3 in the opening seconds of the third period. Kreider scored his second goal of the game as he deflected a Drew Helleson shot past Oettinger.

Mikko Rantanen then scored on the power play to get Dallas back within one. The Stars then went on another power play, but Leo Carlsson scored shorthanded to make it a 6-4 contest. Leo one-timed a pass from Troy Terry on a rush for the score.

Dallas pulled their goalie with about four minutes to go and Roope Hintz scored on a deflection to again pull the Stars within a goal.

Mason McTavish scored into the empty net with just under two minutes to go to make it 7-5, which was the final score.

Analysis:

The Ducks had a rough start to this contest. The Stars scored twice on the power play and led 2-0 after the first period. Anaheim then roared back in the second period with four goals to take a 4-3 lead. The Ducks scored early in the third to make it a 5-3 game, but the Stars answered. Anaheim scored again to make it 6-4 and again Dallas responded. The Ducks then got an empty net goal and won 7-5.

This was another crazy game for Ducks. This was the fourth time Anaheim put up seven goals this season. That’s the same number of 7 goal games the Ducks have had in the last four seasons.

Special teams play was a huge factor in this contest. Dallas scored three times in five power play attempts. Anaheim scored twice in their own five power play attempts. Leo Carlsson scored a shorthanded goal late in the third period which proven to be the game winner.

The Ducks played better at even strength posting a CF% of 56.58% and a FF% of 53.06%. Anaheim put up 43 shot attempts to 33 for Dallas at even strength. Dallas did end up with a slight edge in shots on goal with 26 to 25.

Overall this Ducks team is extremely exciting to watch. They are scoring goals at will and lead the league averaging 4.15 per game. Right now it doesn’t matter if the Ducks get behind or ahead, they are going to score in bunches. It’s nice to see the national media take notice of the Ducks. Let the good times roll!

Team Notes/Stats:

Ian Moore scored his first NHL goal.

Kreider has scored a goal in each of his last four games. He has 8 goals in 9 games this season.
