Dealing With The Card Shark
By Phil Wunderlich
Unfortunately, due to the expansion draft, the Tampa Bay Lightning could lose a high potential young defenseman like Slater Koekkoek or Jake Dotchin to the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Chances also are that Yzerman is going to do everything in his power to disguise them and force the Knights to take on a contract like the one of a diminishing Jason Garrison. And according to Bob McKenzie Vegas may, in fact, take Garrison’s contract from Tampa.
How is Yzerman going to do this? Well one way to do that is via a trade and according to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times, there may be in fact a side deal with Vegas to protect its young D. However as we all know Yzerman is a very quiet person when it comes to deals so according to a tweet by Pierre LeBrun, “Yzerman said in a text that he would not confirm one way or another whether there has been any deal with Vegasâ€.
The deal, however, could include a young forward such as Anthony Cirelli or a pick in the upcoming draft so he has to do a balancing act to find just what he wants to do and what is right for the Lightning as an organization. This deal if in fact in place is not going to be an easy one to make and one thing is for certain I would not want to be Yzerman right now dealing with the Las Vegas “Card Shark†George McPhee.
