Ducks Rally Past Kings In The Shootout
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks closed out the homestand against the Los Angeles Kings. Ville Husso was in net against Darcy Kuemper. The Ducks announced before the game Lukas Dostal would be out 2-3 weeks with an upper body injury.
The Kings scored first with just over two minutes left to go in the first period. Alex Laferriere got to a rebound and beat Husso to give a LA a 1-0 lead after the first period.
The Ducks went on the power play and pulled even with nine minutes left in the second period. Chris Kreider scored as he deflected a pass from Troy Terry.
The Kings answered right back with a goal by Kevin Fiala just over a minute later.
Olen Zellweger then answered for the Ducks about a minute later. Zellweger got the puck at the left side of the net and was able to beat Kuemper low for the score. The teams were tied at two after two periods.
In the third period, the Kings would score twice early on to take a 4-2 lead. Alex Turcotte and Joel Edmundson scored in the first seven minutes of the final period.
Pavel Mintyukov scored just over halfway through the final frame to get Anaheim within one. Mintyukov got the puck in the slot and scored high.
Jackson LaCombe then found Leo Carlsson with less than two minutes to go in the slot for the game tying goal.
Bonus hockey would be needed to determine a winner. In overtime there was no scoring, so the teams went to a shootout.
Troy Terry and Mason McTavish scored in the shootout and that’s all Anaheim needed to win 5-4.
