Fowler Nominated For The King Clancy Trophy
By Michael Walters
Today the NHL announced the nominees for the King Clancy Award. The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is a sports award given annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community.
The trophy is named in honor of Francis M. “King” Clancy, who played for the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He later became a coach, referee, and team executive. The trophy was first awarded in 1988 and was presented to the NHL by Maple Leafs owner Harold Ballard. The winner is chosen by a panel of representatives from the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association.
The Anaheim Ducks nominee is Cam Fowler. He was the recipient of the team’s Community Involvement Award last year. He has been involved in several events each season where the purpose is to raise funds for the Anaheim Ducks Foundation and partnering organizations. There are also other events that focus on helping children in Orange County. Ducks and Tux, the Lady Ducks Fashion Show, the Golf Classic, the Center Ice Party, S.C.O.R.E., and the Little Ducks Initiative. Fowler also participates in the Getzlaf Golf Shootout, which supports Cure Duchenne, who focuses on helping youth combat muscular dystrophy.
