VIDEO: Boston Doubles Up Anaheim
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks finished up their road trip in Boston against the Bruins, who were also 4-1-0. John Gibson was in net against Jaroslav Halak. Sam Steel drew in for this game and Devin Shore was a healthy scratch.
The Ducks had another slow start in this contest. The Ducks were outshot 11-8 with most of their shots coming in the final minutes of the opening period. The Bruins David Pastrnak scored on the power play early in the period and they held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

In the second period, the Ducks came out with tremendous energy as they tried to tie the game up. They created several chances, but Halak was equal to the task. About halfway through the period, Boston would counter-attack and Pastrnak would score his second of the game. The Ducks did get on the board late in the period with a goal by Rickard Rakell. The Ducks cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the third period.
In the final period, the Ducks would come out again with some energy, but Pastrnak quickly countered with another goal to give Boston a 3-1 lead. The Ducks would get penalty trouble again and Pastrnak would score his fourth goal of the contest. Anaheim battled back as Henrique would score with about four minutes to go to make the game interesting. The Ducks would pull Gibson around the three-minute mark, but they were unable to score again and lost 4-2. Tempers flared right near the end of the game when Zdeno Chara and Max Jones got into it and surprisingly Chris Wagner and Ryan Getzlaf went at it as well.
Analysis:
The Ducks fell victim to another poor start, but only found themselves down 1-0 after the first period. From the second period on, the Ducks outplayed Boston. Anaheim created odd-man rushes, but Halak played outstanding in net. The Ducks also had their chances on the power play, but went 0-for-4 and still remain scoreless with the man advantage this season. Gibson also didn’t play his best game of the season. The Ducks return home on Wednesday night, where they will look to get back on track against Buffalo.
