The Anaheim Ducks finished their road trip in New York against the Islanders. Chad Johnson was in net against Robin Lehner.

First Period

The Islanders came out strong to began the game and scored twice in the first period. The Ducks would go shorthanded just after three minutes of play and Cal Clutterbuck for the early 1-0 lead. At the halfway point of the period, Clutterbuck would score again to make it 2-0. The Ducks get did a power play later in the period, but couldn’t convert. The Ducks were outshot 12-5.

Second Period

Anaheim tried to push back at the beginning of the period. They had a couple of good chances, but Lehner was equal to the task. The Islanders went on the power play in the middle of the period, but the Ducks were able to keep them off the board. It looked like the Ducks might end the period still down 2-0, but Leo Komarov would tip a point shot past Johnson to make it 3-0 in the final minute of the period. Shots were 8-5 in favor of Anaheim.

Third Period

In the final period, there were no goals or penalties. The Ducks managed a few chances in the period, but couldn’t cash in to break the shutout by Lehner. The Islanders continued to apply pressure throughout the period. Anaheim pulled Johnson in the final minutes, but the Ducks still lost 3-0.

Analysis

The Islanders proved why they are in first place in the Metropolitan Division. They have a relentless forecheck and can roll four lines on any given night against any given team. The Ducks did play the tonight before so they appeared a little flat to start the game and it cost them two quick goals. Anaheim did try to push back in the second period, but they couldn’t create many quality scoring chances. Anaheim will return home to face the St. Louis Blues before the All-Star break.
