VIDEO: Ducks Double Up Dallas
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks finished their homestand against the Dallas Stars. John Gibson was in net against Ben Bishop.
First Period
The Ducks came out strong in the first period. Just over six minutes into the period, Dallas would turnover the puck in front of their own net. Pontus Aberg would intercept a pass and then find Ondrej Kase in the slot for the earlier score. Dallas did have one power play in the period, but Anaheim was able to kill it off. The Ducks outshot the Stars 15-5 in the opening period.
Second Period
Second periods had been a challenge for Anaheim against Dallas this season getting outscored 7-2 in the previous two meetings. The Ducks would again struggle in the middle frame. Dallas would score on a power play after Hampus Lindholm was called for high-sticking. About two minutes later Devin Shore would find Blake Comeau at the side of the net for an easy tap-in goal. Dallas would add another goal by Alexander Radulov on the power play and suddenly the Ducks were down 3-1 halfway through the game. Kase did get a goal late in the period to pull Anaheim within one before the period ended.
Third Period
It was all Anaheim in the final period. Kase would score at the side of the net somehow getting the puck between Bishop and post. Kase had his first career hat trick and the game was tied. Brandon Montour would then score as Bishop was screened by his own teammates and out of position leaving an open net. Less than two minutes later Jakob Silfverberg would get a goal on an odd play that had to be reviewed. Silfverberg had a partial breakaway and was hooked when he tried to shoot. The puck hit his right skate, then his left skate pushing the puck just inside the post for the goal. The play was reviewed because it was originally called no goal as it was deemed Silfverberg had kicked it in. The review should there was no distinct kicking motion and the goal stood. Dallas would pull Bishop with over four minutes to go and Hampus Lindholm would get the empty net goal to finish off the Stars.
Analysis:
The Ducks came out flying in this one and took it to the Stars, but could only manage a 1-0 after the first period. Anaheim had trouble in the second period against Dallas in the previous meetings and it happened again tonight. Anaheim took several penalties and gave up two power play goals. The Ducks have been outscored 10-3 in the second periods played against the Stars this season. The good news is Anaheim was able to come back in this game, unlike the previous contests. The Ducks took over the game in the final frame by scoring four unanswered goals. The Ducks will look to keep the momentum going this Saturday as they begin their six-game road trip.

Kase recorded his first career hat trick.
Ryan Getzlaf earned career points 900 and 901.
