Gulls Sign Forney and Moldenhauer
By Michael Walters
Today the San Diego Gulls announced they have signed defensemen Chris Forney and Scott Moldenhauer to one-year contracts for the 2018-19 AHL season.
Forney played in 135 games in four seasons at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He recorded 49 total points(14 G + 35 A) and had a +34 rating during that time. He helped UMass-Lowell win the Hockey East Conference Championship in 2016-17. He signed an ATO on March 14, 2018, with the Gulls and appeared in three games last season recording no points.
Moldenhauer finished his senior season at Western Michigan University of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), recording 10 total points(1 G + 9 A) in 32 games. He played in a total of 140 games earning 33 total points(7 G + 26 A) during his college career.
Both are good sized defensemen with Forney listed as 6’2″, 201 pounds and Moldenhauer listed as 6’4″, 225 pounds. They will help bring some added size and grit to the blue line for the Gulls this upcoming season. Forney is a two-way defenseman and is the more offense-minded of the two players.
