By Michael Walters
According to RTS Sport and Swiss Hockey News, Reto Berra has signed a one-year deal with the Ducks for the 2017-18 season. According to CapFriendly.com, the deal is one-way and worth $700,000.
Berra played in seven games(0-5-0, 3.45 GAA, .876 SV%) for the Florida Panthers last season before leaving the NHL. In April of 2017, Swiss NLA team HC-Fribourg Gotteron signed Berra to a three-year contract through 2020. The contract included an NHL out-clause, which Berra decided to exercise. According to HCFG, Berra is still under contract with the team for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
Berra started his NHL career with the Calgary Flames in 2013-14. He played in 29 games going 9-17-2 with 2.95 GAA and .897 SV%. He was traded during that season to the Colorado Avalanche for a second-round pick in the 2014 NHL draft. Berra played with Colorado though the 2015-16 season before being traded to Florida for forward Rocco Grimaldi. Berra played in 35 games in Colorado going 10-13-2 with a 2.69 GAA and .915 SV%.
With the Ducks signing Ryan Miller, Berra will likely play in San Diego with the Gulls.
